No one knows how many residents, if any, along the Northeast U.S. coast are struggling this week to decide if last weekend’s unexpected deluge of rain was their “final straw.”
Tens of thousands of low- and moderate-income residents of the New Jersey coastline, New York City’s waterlogged boroughs, and/or Long Island are once again cleaning up flooded basements and first-floor units, coping with flooded cars that they parked along crowded streets, and filing for unemployment if their places of work were inundated.
Electricity prices can have a momentous effect on people throughout all walks of urban life. The price of electricity impacts the affordability of homes and modes of transportation, levels of energy consumption, economic activity, quality of life, and eco-systemic health.
It is with great sadness that we report of the death of one of the leading lights of adult education of the 20th and 21st century, Professor Chris Duke. Chris, amongst many other positions was a visiting professor at the University of Glasgow, and made extensive practical and conceptual contributions to CR&DALL in the past two decades.
ASPBAE and the adult education movement has lost another one of its own. On 22 June 2023, Dr. Chris Duke, former ASPBAE Secretary General (1972-1985) passed on.
Chris Duke was a towering figure in the adult education movement. A significant part of what ASPBAE has accomplished and reached today is built on Chris' vision and exemplary work. ASPBAE owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
Registration is now open for Higher Education Reform 2023 hosted by CR&DALL at the University of Glasgow from 21-23 June 2023. Please visit this website for more details
This new project with Maria Grazia Imperiale as PI will investigate the role of informal language educators working in refugee settings in Lebanon and Jordan, and pilot ways of co-creating professional development with the language educators themselves, nurturing agency. It will support educators in examining and articulating their vision for refugee language education through providing connections and opportunities for discussion with refugees and those working with refugees in their own and other contexts, including host communities.
We are very pleased to announce that core CR&DALL member, Maria Grazia Imperiale, is the co-I of a new Arts and Humanties Research Council (AHRC) funded project entitled, Seeing Arts Health Research Enacted (SHARED): Understanding what works for whom in arts and humanities-based approaches for mental health and wellbeing across the globe. Congratulations to Grazia on this award.
On 6th January 2023, a new book, Transitioning Vocational Education and Training in Africa, was published by Bristol University Press. Amongst the authors was Simon McGrath, CR&DALL Core member at the University of Glasgow. Congratulations to Simon and his colleagues in Africa.
It is with great pleasure that we report that Professor Budd Hall has been made an Officer of the Order of Canada in recognition of 'his contributions as a pioneer in the field of Community-based research, and for his advancement of knowledge building and research capacity around the world'.
